PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed to implement two initiatives to further improve the welfare of seafarers and accelerate their career paths, including providing a minimum wage guideline.
Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah said the minimum wage rate will be divided according to the ship's sailing limit category so that the breakdown can be adjusted fairly.
"Apart from the minimum wage rate, we have also managed to agree on the sea service period for engine cadet training. It will be reduced from 12 months to six months.
