KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) wholly owned subsidiary Petronas Suriname E&P BV (PSEPBV) has signed production sharing contracts (PSCs) for Blocks 9 and 10, located in the shallow offshore region of Suriname.
In a statement on Thursday, the national oil and gas company said the agreements were signed with Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV (Staatsolie), Paradise Oil Company NV (POC), and consortium partners Chevron Suriname Exploration Ltd (Chevron) and QatarEnergy International E&P LLC (QatarEnergy).
“The PSCs were awarded as part of the Suriname Post Shallow Offshore 2 Bid Round 2024-2025, following the consortium’s successful bid,” it said.
Petronas said that these PSCs mark a significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion in the Suriname-Guyana Basin, a region recognised globally for its hydrocarbon potential.
It said Blocks 9 and 10 span a combined area of approximately 5,456 sq km and are strategically located between proven deepwater discoveries and onshore producing fields.
“Under the PSCs, Petronas holds a 30% participating interest and serves as the operator for Block 9, with Chevron and QatarEnergy each holding 20%, and POC holding 30%.
“For Block 10, Petronas also holds a 30% participating interest, while Chevron acts as the operator with 30%, QatarEnergy 30%, and POC 10%,” it said.
The signing ceremony was held in Paramaribo, Suriname, with Petronas represented by PSEPBV country chair Danny Tan Chern Han.
Staatsolie was represented by its managing director Annand Jagesar, Chevron by its frontier exploration director Andrew Deighan, QatarEnergy by its manager of international upstream and exploration Ali Al-Mana, and POC by its director Rekha Bissumbhar.
Petronas vice-president of exploration Faisal Bakar said, “Petronas is focused on growing our presence in Suriname, and we thank Staatsolie and the government of the Republic of Suriname for their continued support.”
