The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for strong winds and rough seas, with hazardous marine conditions expected across Malaysian waters and key shipping routes until Thursday, Dec 18.
For Malaysian waters within 24 nautical miles, northeasterly winds of between 40kmh and 50kmh and waves of up to 3.5m are forecast off East Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan, posing risks to small boats, marine recreation and water sports.
MetMalaysia has also cautioned of a sea level rise in the same areas from Dec 13 to Dec 18, raising the risk of coastal inundation.
For shipping and offshore operations, a Category Three warning has been issued for waters off eastern Condore to western Reef North, where winds may exceed 60kmh and waves rise above 4.5 metres, threatening all maritime activities, including oil platform operations…
